Natural Gas Processing and Liquefaction

Identifies companies and other entities that own or operate facilities that separate, treat, compress, process, or liquefy raw natural gas into pipeline-quality gas, natural-gas liquids, liquefied natural gas, or other commercial gas products. This includes gas-processing plants, LNG liquefaction facilities, and floating LNG. Upstream production without processing, transport and distribution, LNG shipping alone, power generation, end use, and engineering or maintenance services are excluded.

How to read this definition

Inclusion criteria describe evidence that can establish this activity. Exclusion criteria identify circumstances that do not establish it on that basis alone. The evaluation remains connected to its taxonomy version and supporting evidence.

Can establish this activity

Included when supported

Evidence may support involvement when it matches one or more of these inclusion criteria.

8 criteria
  1. 01Criterion

Operators of Natural Gas Processing Plants

Defined as: Companies operating facilities that remove impurities, separate hydrocarbons, or prepare raw natural gas for commercial use or transport.

  2. 02Criterion

    LNG Liquefaction Facility Operators

Defined as: Entities converting natural gas into liquefied natural gas (LNG) for storage, shipping, or export.

  3. 03Criterion

    Companies Producing Commercial LNG Products

Defined as: Firms engaged in the large-scale production of LNG for industrial, utility, transportation, or export markets.

  4. 04Criterion

Natural Gas Compression and Conversion Operators

Defined as: Companies operating facilities that compress, condition, or convert natural gas into transportable or marketable forms.

  5. 05Criterion

Integrated Energy Companies With Gas Processing or LNG Operations

Defined as: Diversified energy firms that own or operate gas processing plants or LNG terminals as part of their midstream operations.

  6. 06Criterion

Developers of LNG Export or Gas Processing Infrastructure

Defined as: Entities involved in constructing, expanding, or financing LNG terminals, liquefaction plants, or gas conditioning infrastructure.

  7. 07Criterion

Companies Producing Natural Gas Liquids (NGLs) Through Gas Processing

Defined as: Firms extracting propane, butane, ethane, or similar hydrocarbons from raw natural gas streams.

  8. 08Criterion

    Floating LNG (FLNG) Facility Operators

Defined as: Companies operating offshore floating liquefaction infrastructure for processing and exporting natural gas.

Does not establish this activity on its own

Excluded on this basis alone

These circumstances do not establish this activity unless separate evidence also meets an inclusion criterion.

6 criteria
  1. 01Criterion

Natural Gas Exploration and Extraction Companies Without Processing Operations

Defined as: Upstream gas producers that do not own or operate gas processing or liquefaction facilities.

  2. 02Criterion

    Gas Pipeline and Distribution Companies

Defined as: Entities focused solely on transmission, storage, or retail delivery of natural gas without processing or LNG conversion activities.

  3. 03Criterion

    Natural Gas-Fired Power Generation Companies

Defined as: Utilities or power producers consuming natural gas for electricity generation without gas processing or liquefaction operations.

  4. 04Criterion

LNG Shipping Companies Without Liquefaction Operations

Defined as: Marine transport firms carrying LNG cargo without ownership or operation of LNG production facilities.

  5. 05Criterion

Industrial Consumers of LNG or Processed Gas

Defined as: Manufacturers, utilities, or industrial operators purchasing LNG or processed gas for consumption rather than producing it.

  6. 06Criterion

    Engineering, Equipment, or Maintenance Providers

Defined as: Contractors and technology suppliers supporting gas processing infrastructure without operational ownership or control.
