About Company Screener

Screening should be open to examination.

Company Screener is being built for institutional investment and compliance teams that need to understand, rather than merely receive, a company screening result.

Why Company Screener exists

A result should carry its reasoning with it.

Investment screening often sits between policy, research, compliance, and portfolio action. Information can become difficult to explain as it passes between those teams. We want the screening record to make those connections visible.

01

Definitions can hide the boundary

A screening result is difficult to use when the covered activity, exclusions, ownership treatment, or applicable version cannot be examined.

02

Evidence can become separated from the decision

Teams need to understand which entity, activity, source, and review period support a result, rather than only receive a flag.

03

A current answer can erase useful history

Compliance review depends on knowing what changed, when it changed, and which information was available when a decision was made.

How we work

Transparency is part of the product.

These principles guide both the public methodology and the logged-in workflow. They are design commitments, not claims that every planned capability is already available.

Publish the definition

Evaluated screens should state what is included and excluded. Organizational aggregators should be clearly distinguished from screens that collect data.

Keep evidence connected

Assessment records should remain connected to the relevant entity, activity, source material, source date, and review context.

Preserve change history

Taxonomy releases, assessment changes, review notes, and superseded decisions should remain available for explanation and audit.

Make challenge possible

Evaluated companies, clients, and specialist organizations should have a clear route to provide evidence, request review, and identify possible errors.

From policy to record

Designed around the decision process.

Company Screener does not treat a screening flag as the end of the workflow. The useful record includes why the screen was selected, what the evidence supports, and how the organization responded.

01

Policy context

Start with the client’s mandate, regulatory interpretation, entity scope, ownership treatment, thresholds, and required action.

02

Source-backed assessment

Connect evidence to specific entities and activities using the applicable published screen definition.

03

Reviewable decision

Separate the involvement outcome from evidence qualifiers, decision notes, and any action the client chooses to take.

What the service supports

  • Documented screen definitions and criteria
  • Portfolio and watchlist screening workflows
  • Evidence, assessment, review, and change records
  • Re-evaluation requests and moderated evidence submissions
  • In-app and email notifications based on preferences

Client responsibility

  • Interpreting applicable law and regulatory guidance
  • Approving policies, thresholds, exceptions, and timelines
  • Determining investment, engagement, or escalation action
  • Assessing suitability for a particular mandate or client
  • Obtaining legal, investment, or fiduciary advice as needed

Open to informed challenge

Companies and specialist organizations can contribute.

Companies we evaluate can provide evidence, identify factual concerns, request a correction, or ask for a re-evaluation. A submission does not silently replace the existing record; it enters a moderated review process.

We also welcome collaboration with NGOs, researchers, and organizations with specific subject-matter knowledge. Their contribution can help improve source coverage, definitions, and the accuracy of company evaluations while keeping methodology decisions visible.
