Inclusion criteria describe evidence that can establish this activity. Exclusion criteria identify circumstances that do not establish it on that basis alone. The evaluation remains connected to its taxonomy version and supporting evidence.
Included when supported
Evidence may support involvement when it matches one or more of these inclusion criteria.
- 01Criterion
Include companies owning or controlling crude-oil, condensate, bitumen, or other liquid-hydrocarbon reserves or resources recognized under an applicable technical or securities-reporting standard.
- 02Criterion
Include holders of oil exploration, production, mineral, lease, concession, or comparable extractive rights that confer substantive rights to an identified resource.
- 03Criterion
Include undeveloped oil assets where the entity retains a recognized economic resource interest; record development and final-investment-decision status separately.
- 04Criterion
Include conventional oil reserves and resources, with resource type recorded.
- 05Criterion
Include unconventional liquid-hydrocarbon reserves and resources, including bitumen and tight or shale oil, with extraction technique and geology recorded separately.
- 06Criterion
Include diversified or integrated energy companies with documented oil reserve or resource holdings.
- 07Criterion
Include exploration companies only after an identified oil resource or reserve has been established under a recognized reporting basis and the entity holds the relevant rights.
- 08Criterion
Include acquisitions or investments that transfer direct ownership or control of an oil reserve, resource, or extractive right to the evaluated entity.
Excluded on this basis alone
These circumstances do not establish this activity unless separate evidence also meets an inclusion criterion.
- 01Criterion
Exclude service providers, contractors, equipment suppliers, and financiers without direct reserve or extractive-right ownership.
- 02Criterion
Oil Refining, Transport, or Marketing Companies Without Reserve Holdings
Defined as: Midstream and downstream firms that process, transport, or sell petroleum products without ownership of oil reserves.
- 03Criterion
Natural Gas Reserve Ownership Without Oil Reserves
Defined as: Companies holding only natural gas reserves without commercially significant oil reserve interests.
- 04Criterion
Exclude assets fully divested, surrendered, expired, abandoned, or written off with no continuing economic right, while preserving historical involvement separately.
- 05Criterion
Exclude ordinary securities ownership, lending, underwriting, and other passive financial exposure that does not confer direct resource rights.
- 06Criterion
Exclude prospects, leads, exploration targets, or discoveries that do not meet a recognized economic resource or reserve classification.
