Inclusion criteria describe evidence that can establish this activity. Exclusion criteria identify circumstances that do not establish it on that basis alone. The evaluation remains connected to its taxonomy version and supporting evidence.
Included when supported
Evidence may support involvement when it matches one or more of these inclusion criteria.
- 01Criterion
Operators of Oil-Fired Power Plants
Defined as: Companies owning or operating facilities that generate electricity primarily through the combustion of fuel oil, diesel, bunker fuel, or crude oil.
- 02Criterion
Utilities With Oil-Fired Generation Assets
Defined as: Electric utilities or independent power producers maintaining oil-fired generating capacity within their broader energy portfolio.
- 03Criterion
Companies Operating Diesel-Fueled Power Generation Facilities
Defined as: Entities using diesel or other petroleum-derived fuels for commercial electricity generation, including grid-connected or captive facilities.
- 04Criterion
Integrated Energy Companies With Oil-Based Power Operations
Defined as: Diversified energy firms engaged in oil-fired electricity generation alongside other power generation activities.
- 05Criterion
Developers or Owners of Oil-Fired Generation Infrastructure
Defined as: Companies involved in the construction, expansion, refurbishment, or ownership of oil-fired power stations.
- 06Criterion
Operators of Remote or Island Oil-Fired Power Systems
Defined as: Entities relying on fuel oil or diesel-fired generation for electricity supply in isolated or off-grid regions.
- 07Criterion
Include captive or industrial oil-fired power only where petroleum fuel is regularly used to generate electricity and the activity meets the applicable client-policy materiality rule.
Excluded on this basis alone
These circumstances do not establish this activity unless separate evidence also meets an inclusion criterion.
- 01Criterion
Oil Exploration, Refining, or Transport Companies Without Power Generation Activity
Defined as: Companies involved in upstream, refining, or midstream oil operations that do not generate electricity from oil-fired assets.
- 02Criterion
Natural Gas or Coal-Fired Power Generation Without Oil Combustion
Defined as: Utilities or generators using other fossil fuels without material oil-fired generation operations.
- 03Criterion
Renewable Energy or Nuclear Power Producers
Defined as: Companies generating electricity exclusively from renewable, hydroelectric, or nuclear sources.
- 04Criterion
Exclude emergency, standby, black-start, or short-duration backup generators whose petroleum use is incidental under the applicable policy threshold.
- 05Criterion
Equipment Manufacturers or Engineering Contractors
Defined as: Firms supplying turbines, engines, maintenance, or engineering services without ownership or operation of oil-fired power plants.
- 06Criterion
Companies With Fully Retired or Decommissioned Oil-Fired Assets
Defined as: Entities that have permanently ceased oil-fired electricity generation operations.
